We’re so excited to announce that Sport in Mind’s Mum and Baby Programme has officially been endorsed by The Active Pregnancy Foundation.
This endorsement reflects Sport in Mind’s commitment to delivering safe, effective, and compassionate physical activity support for women during the perinatal period. Their Mum and Baby sessions offer welcoming, inclusive spaces where mothers can nurture their mental and physical wellbeing, regain confidence, and build meaningful connections with their babies and their wider community.

As part of the endorsement process, Sport in Mind undertook our quality framework for pregnancy and postnatal programmes This review is designed to support organisations in strengthening their offer. We do this through a mentoring relationship, enabling the team to work together to implement positive changes.
Kayleigh Howard, Head of Growth and Innovation at Sport in Mind, shared:
“We’re incredibly proud to have achieved this endorsement. As a charity working on the front line, we saw it as essential to undertake this rigorous process to ensure our practices meet the highest industry standards. The mentoring we received has been truly invaluable, giving us the space to critically reflect on our systems and approaches, and strengthen the way we safely and effectively support mothers during the perinatal period.
We're always proud of our Sport in Mind Mum and Baby Programme, which continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of mums across our communities. But we know the work doesn’t stop here. We must keep championing perinatal mental health and striving for greater awareness, investment, and support, because every mum deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported.”
We couldn’t agree more. Pregnancy and childbirth are times when many women reduce or stop physical activity, often unintentionally, despite clear evidence that staying active benefits both mother and baby. Resources that empower professionals to support women to maintain or begin activity during this period are essential.
We also know that active mothers are powerful role models. Research shows that children of active parents are more likely to be active themselves, meaning the habits developed during pregnancy can have lasting, positive impacts for the whole family.
Our warm congratulations go to the Sport in Mind team, their volunteers, coaches, and mums, whose dedication drives this work forward every day. We look forward to continuing to champion perinatal mental health together, ensuring every mum feels safe, supported, and able to move in ways that work for her.
