It's that time of the year when we start looking back at all the events of the past 12months, and we're proud to say we can celebrate a number of successes.
In May we launched our first campaign - the Real Mums are Role Models Photography Competition, and we've loved seeing the hundreds of entries from women across the UK, including those from the British Army, who supported and promoted the campaign. We recognise there's still more we can do to increase the representation of active black and brown mums and mums with disabilities, and we will continue to push for this in 2022.
As we enter further uncertainty around the pandemic, we'd like to provide you with reassurance that we've got your back. Throughout the last two years we've done our research and we know you need support ... so whether you are isolating, or getting out and about, we've got resources to help and guide you. We're extremely proud of our free downloadable #Find Your Active resources. We're planning two new series' in the near future covering sports and health topics, so watch this space!
We're also very excited to announce that we will be taking over the This Mum Moves programme from ukactive. This Mum Moves is a project funded by Sport England and The National Lottery and has undergone a 3-year testing and evaluation period to develop an educational programme with the aim of increasing professionals knowledge, skills and confidence in promoting physical activity. We're partnering with the Institute of Health Visiting to take the programme forward by delivering educational courses, on a national scale, to professionals who have regular contact with women in their childbearing years. This will go a long way to ensure a consistent approach and to normalising active pregnancy and improving women's quality of life.
As we head into 2022, we’ve put our heads together and come up with four themes to help us focus our time and energy.
1. Advocacy. We speak up for pregnant and postnatal women, giving them a voice on platforms they might not otherwise have access to.
2. Empowerment. We enable women to make informed decisions by dispelling myths, emphasising benefits and safety messages, and encouraging meaningful conversations.
3. Representation. We are for every mum; so we will endeavour to increase the diversity and inclusivity, and visibility of active pregnancies. Activity is for everyone!
4. Engagement. We engage with women, their support network, and professionals to improve quality of life and support a healthier population.
These themes will form the basis of our strategy for the next year . . . this is Our Big Push for 2022!
Here’s to better and more active days ahead because, ultimately, we know that an active pregnancy forms the foundation of an active family and a healthier society.
With much love from,
Sally & Marlize x
